Capucins Market Morning

Marché des Capucins sits a little outside the old town, away from the postcard squares, which is part of why I like starting a morning there. It's where a lot of Bordeaux actually shops, and it's where I take people who want to taste the city rather than just look at it.

We walk the stalls while they are properly busy, then stop at one of the counters for oysters and a glass of cold white wine, eaten standing up, which is a genuinely local habit. Along the way we taste local cheese and a few slices of charcuterie from the people who actually make them.

It has to happen in the morning, since the market thins out fast after lunchtime and some stalls close early. If you only have time for one food experience in Bordeaux, this is the one I would choose.

What's included

  • A guided walk through the market's stalls while it is actually working
  • Oysters and a glass of white wine, eaten standing at a counter the way locals do it
  • A tasting of local cheese and charcuterie along the way

Duration
2 hours
Schedule
Tuesday to Sunday, departure at 9:30
Meeting point
Shared with you when you book

This only works in the morning, since the market winds down after lunchtime, and it is closed on Mondays. Let me know in advance if you cannot eat shellfish, there is a good alternative that skips the oysters without skipping the experience. Bring cash for anything you want to buy and take home.
