Pétanque and Apéritif Evening

In Bordeaux, I run an evening experience built around pétanque and the French apéritif, the small ritual of drinks and snacks that happens before dinner most evenings here. Guests meet me at a real court with genuine local character, where locals actually play.

I teach the rules of pétanque in about ten minutes, which is enough to get started, since most of the fun comes from playing rather than from mastering the rules first. While we play, we drink a local apéritif and eat the small snacks that go with it, and I explain the etiquette around it, since the apéritif is treated as its own small event here rather than just a drink before dinner.

Groups end up competitive, and people who come alone usually end up talking with everyone else by the end of it. The evening usually runs about ninety minutes, and it works whether you come as a couple, a family, or completely on your own.

Wear flat, comfortable shoes, since we play standing on gravel. The apéritif includes alcohol, so please bring ID if you look under 25, and let me know beforehand if you would rather stick to something non alcoholic. Evenings by the river can get cool, so bring a light layer outside summer.
