Right Bank and Street Art

Everyone pictures the honey coloured facades when they think of Bordeaux, so I like showing people the other side of the river too, literally. We cross to what used to be an old military barracks and is now something else entirely, skate ramps, street art covering the old walls, and a canteen built into part of the former buildings.

We walk through slowly, since the point here is the atmosphere rather than a list of stops, and I explain how the site went from an abandoned barracks to what it is now. It finishes with a view back across the water toward the old town, which looks different from over here than it does from inside it.

This one is relaxed by design, good for an afternoon that does not need a fixed itinerary, and it works well paired with the sunset walk later the same evening if you want to make a full afternoon and evening of the river.

What's included

This side of the river is nothing like the old town, skateboards, murals and a relaxed canteen rather than grand facades, and I think that contrast is worth seeing on its own terms. Food and drinks at the canteen are not included but are inexpensive if you want to stay on afterward. It is flat and easy underfoot the whole way.
