Sunset on the Right Bank

Bordeaux's best view of itself is not from inside the old town, it is from across the river. I take you over Pont de Pierre onto the right bank, where the whole eighteenth century waterfront lines up in front of you with nothing in the way.

We time the walk so we are in position as the light turns gold and then pink, the short window that makes the honey coloured stone actually glow. It is a short walk more than a hike, so it works for almost anyone, and it ends with the kind of photograph that does not need much editing.

I keep this one small and flexible, since the whole point is being in the right place at the right minute, and a big group makes that harder to manage.

La plus belle vue que Bordeaux offre d'elle même ne se trouve pas dans la vieille ville, elle se trouve de l'autre côté du fleuve. Je vous emmène traverser le Pont de Pierre jusqu'à la rive droite, où tout le front de quais du dix huitième siècle s'aligne devant vous sans rien pour gêner la vue.

Je garde cette visite petite et flexible, car tout l'enjeu est d'être au bon endroit à la bonne minute, et un grand groupe rend ça plus difficile à gérer.
